As a mainstream fabric in the modern denim apparel industry, stretch denim is widely applied in fashion jeans, casual trousers and workwear due to its excellent fit and wearing comfort. Blended with spandex yarns, it delivers outstanding elasticity and recovery. However, spandex-containing denim is prone to inherent quality defects including post-wash twisting, distorted pant silhouettes, offset plackets and twisted hems. These flaws compromise the flatness and overall grade of finished garments, and easily lead to customer complaints and return losses. Accordingly, a mature and standardized anti-twist finishing process serves as the core guarantee for stable mass production and consistent quality, and represents the refined manufacturing capability of premium denim factories.

The fundamental cause of stretch denim twisting lies in the unbalanced internal stress of fabric structure. Woven with cotton, cotton-polyester and spandex yarns, stretch denim accumulates latent internal stress during weaving, resulting from unbalanced warp and weft tension, inconsistent spandex drafting force and natural fabric skew. Without proper finishing treatment, the residual stress is gradually released during subsequent processes including pre-shrinking, garment sewing and heat pressing, causing spontaneous fabric retraction and twisting. This eventually leads to asymmetrical pant legs, skewed stitching and in-wear twisting. In particular, high-elastic, heavy-weight and slub stretch denim features more structural tension differences, which makes it more susceptible to torsion deformation and demands higher precision and stability in finishing technology.

The core principle of anti-twist finishing is to release residual internal stress in advance, correct fabric skew angles and stabilize warp and weft structures, fundamentally eliminating deformation risks in subsequent processing and daily wear so as to achieve long-term stability in fabric dimension, texture and appearance. Rather than a simple surface shaping procedure, it is a systematic technical solution integrating grey fabric pre-treatment, precise skew correction, tension control, high-temperature setting, cooling shaping and secondary pre-shrinking, with every parameter directly determining the final anti-twist performance and garment quality.

In industrial production, standardized anti-twist finishing runs through the entire manufacturing process from grey fabric to finished garments with rigorous layered control. In the pre-treatment stage, grey fabric undergoes sufficient natural relaxing and pre-shrinking to eliminate tension accumulated during weaving and storage, ensuring a stable and relaxed initial state. Professional setting equipment is then adopted to calibrate fabric skew precisely according to different elastic ratios, fabric weights and slub textures, correcting inherent weft skew and texture offset and laying a solid foundation for anti-twist performance.

Tension control is the pivotal procedure of anti-twist finishing. Abandoning the traditional high-tension stretching mode, the process adopts the standardized technical principle of low-tension operation, uniform feeding and balanced bidirectional drafting, strictly controlling the tension difference between warp and weft directions to avoid secondary stress imbalance. Customized parameter debugging is implemented for different fabric types: thin high-elastic denim adopts mild tension and low-speed setting to prevent over-stretching and elastic failure; heavy-weight slub denim enhances texture correction strength to match the special tension distribution of slub structures, ensuring flat fabric surfaces and natural textures after finishing.

Standardized control of temperature and running speed is essential for stable finishing and consistent mass production. The process adopts precise high-temperature setting parameters that stabilize spandex fiber structures without sacrificing elasticity and resilience. Moderate and constant running speed ensures uniform heating and consistent shaping of the whole batch, avoiding incomplete setting and residual local stress. High-temperature treatment is followed by immediate cooling and shaping to rapidly solidify fiber structures, lock fabric flatness and skew angles, and eliminate secondary deformation caused by residual heat.

To further optimize anti-twist performance and adapt to garment washing procedures, formal production incorporates secondary pre-shrinking and strict quality inspection after primary setting. By simulating industrial washing, soaking and drying processes, residual fabric stress is fully released and potential deformation risks are eliminated in advance, with fine adjustments made for minor skew deviations to completely prevent post-wash twisting and distortion. A rigorous batch sampling inspection system is implemented to comprehensively test skew degree, shrinkage rate, surface flatness and elastic recovery, ensuring unified and stable quality for all bulk products.

From an industrial perspective, anti-twist finishing for stretch denim is no longer a mere fabric shaping process, but a key indicator measuring a factory’s refined production and quality management capabilities. As the market raises higher standards for garment silhouette durability and detailed texture, standardized anti-twist technology effectively solves core quality pain points of stretch denim, reduces defective rates and after-sales costs, and improves garment verticality, fitness and durability. With strong adaptability to small-batch customization, mass production and high-end foreign trade orders, the mature process balances precision and efficiency, becoming a core competitive advantage for modern denim enterprises targeting premium markets.

Driven by the industry trends of environmental protection and refined manufacturing, anti-twist finishing technology for stretch denim will continue to evolve toward low energy consumption, higher stability, refinement and intelligence. Continuous optimization of equipment parameter precision, standardized process systems and normalized quality control will further improve fabric stability and garment texture, providing reliable technical support for high-quality mass production and high-end upgrading of stretch denim apparel.
